Longtime Lovell Police officer and current Lieutenant Dan Anderson decided to hang up his badge and gun last week and retire from the LPD. He will continue to work part time in Cowley and will still teach Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) classes for the LPD.

A roomful of friends, family, coworkers and town officials gathered for a retirement party for Anderson on his last day on the force, Friday, June 27. Memories were shared and cake and punch was served to honor and thank Lt. Anderson. Mayor Bruce Morrison presented Anderson with a plaque recognizing his 25 years of service to the town and the people of Lovell.

Lovell Chief of Police Nick Lewis told the Chronicle that the department will miss Lt. Anderson’s loyalty, dependability and exceptional people skills.

“People like Dan,” Lewis said. “I think he has good common sense and makes good decisions with his conduct. I haven’t heard anyone say he doesn’t represent the Town of Lovell well.”

Lewis also said Anderson does a great job teaching DARE and is one of the reasons the program has been accepted by area schools. He added that Anderson has been very active in the community, serving on the Big Horn County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees and as a past president of the Wyoming DARE Association.

Anderson said it was a tough decision to retire from work in Lovell, but he looks forward to getting off the midnight shift for to spend more time with family.
