This week’s cold snap hit like a ton of bricks. We’re used to this kind of weather, mind you, but it usually doesn’t arrive until January.
Mother Nature hasn’t been good to us in north Big Horn County this fall. First, an early winter-like storm blasted the area in October and spelled doom for what was looking like a near record sugar beet crop. Then, as folks prayed for warm weather, it almost got too warm, causing beet piles to deteriorate faster than they ideally would.

The pulic is urged to use extreme caution during this period of rapid flucuation of flows below Boysen Dam March 31-April 1.

The Bureau of Reclamation has evaluated a request from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to provide a flushing flow in the Big Horn River downstream of Boysen Dam. The Big Horn County Drug Enforcement Task Force has been chipping away at many issues involving prescription drugs for the past year and a half since the formation of the group. They have come up with a lot of ideas that could help the statewide problem, but have run into a roadblock when it comes to the big ideas: funding. The DETF welcomed local state legislators to their meeting Tuesday to talk about funding needs and possible bills to help fight prescription drug abuse.
