Pindroppers show off quilts

The Lovell Elementary School cafeteria was transformed and draped in beautiful colors this weekend during the 7th annual Pindroppers Quilt Show. Quilts were on display Thursday through Saturday and visitors voted on their favorite quilt in each category to decide winners.

Rose parade in full bloom

The Rose Parade passed through Lovell Saturday with a variety of floats, vehicles and groups making their way up and down Main Street, all in the spirit of Mustang Days and community pride. Groups in the parade ranged from politicians and reunited LHS classes to rodeo royalty and turtle shriners zipping down the shoulder of the road.

Demolition Derby smashes expectations

Before the demolition derby Sunday, an online poll at www.mustangdays.com showed only one person who tallied that they were going to the event. That only shows that demolition derby fans didn’t vote in the poll, because the stands were packed, the parking area was filled with wandering people and tailgaters lined the arena, despite the 100-degree plus temperatures Sunday.

LPD Lieutenant retires

Longtime Lovell Police officer and current Lieutenant Dan Anderson decided to hang up his badge and gun last week and retire from the LPD. He will continue to work part time in Cowley and will still teach Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) classes for the LPD.

    If you’ve noticed a large number of catfish this year on Big Horn Lake, you’re not alone. Rumor has it that the catfish are out prowling the lake’s murky depths in record numbers this year and a tournament next Saturday, July 12, should bring in a lot of them to shore and help the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept. tag and study the catfish throughout the season.

BLM plans summer roundup

Base pay increase will be a ‘pleasant surprise’ for employees

As school districts across the state work on a budget for the 2008-09 school year, employee salaries and benefits are a main concern of governing school boards. The Big Horn County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees recently examined a preliminary district budget and voted Thursday, June 26, to implement an 8.1 percent base pay increase for all district employees.
