David Lee Harvey

July 28, 1951 – Dec. 29, 2020

David Lee Harvey of Goodyear, Ariz., passed away on Dec. 29, 2020.

Dave was an avid golfer on his never-ending quest for the proverbial hole in one, which he finally achieved on July 10, 2017.

He was born in Lovell to Sophie (Fink) and Clyde Harvey on July 28, 1951.

Dave, along with brothers Clyde and Allen, grew up on the farm outside of Byron by Whistle Creek, where they learned the value of hard work. They hauled hay and fed and cared for the animals, including milking the cows. Dave raised pigs and calves for Future Farmers of America for three years and received many ribbons and awards. He showed many grand champions at the fairs in Big Horn and Park counties, the Wyoming State Fair and the Billings fair.

Dave played high school football for two years, won science fairs and attended the state science fair two years. He was an honor student and was class vice president his sophomore and junior years.

Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force June 29, 1969, right after graduation while he was 17 and served his country for more than 20 years. He retired at the rank of CMSGT (Chief Master Sargent). He received many medals and other accommodations. Dave was honorably discharged Sept. 1, 1990.

David married Virginia G. Patton-Bush on March 13, 1974. They had three children, Richard, Margaret and Christina.
Virginia passed away on Oct. 12, 2003.

Dave went on to a successful second career in transportation when he worked for the Lompoc School District and eventually retired in June of 2013 as superintendent of transportation for the City of Glendale, Ariz.

Dave married Barbara Burns on July 4, 2012. They enjoyed retirement life together. They went on several cruises and hosted many parties. They had a real talent for bringing people in the community together.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Virginia, son Richard, brothers Richard and Jerry Hettinger and their wives Lillian and Joy and brother-in-law Kent Wolz.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters Margaret (Michael) Cushine, Christina (Dwayne) Varner and Kristen (Scott) Clodfelter; son Danial (Christine) Paulson; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandsons; brothers Clyde and Allen; and sister Rose Wolz.

Due to COVID-19, no services are planned at this time. There will be a celebration of life at a future date in Arizona. Dave will be laid to rest in the Lovell Cemetery at a later time.
