James Tebbs Bischoff

James Tebbs Bischoff

Sept. 23, 1950 – Feb. 10, 2021

James “Jim” Tebbs Bischoff, 70, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at his home in Lovell.

Jim was born on September 23, 1950, in Lovell. He was the eighth of nine children born to Eugene and Helen Bischoff. The family remained in Lovell his whole life, where they ranched.

He grew up around the Bischoff livestock operation, going with his parents and siblings, where they took care of the cows at Cottonwood, Moss Ranch, Dugans, Cookstove and most of the Big Horn Basin. They herded cows from the Montana border to nearly Greybull. In his younger days, he rode saddle bronc.

Jim graduated from Lovell High School in 1969. Then on September 4, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Cheri Rae Gifford. The two made their home in Lovell, where he continued to work for the family ranch and for a short time at Nicholls & Lewis. This union brought three sons: Jeffrey James, Jack Andrew and Wade Eugene. Jim loved being a father, and as soon as the boys were old enough to tag along, he would leave the house with a diaper in one back pocket and a baby bottle in the other—sons in tow.

Jim loved to be on the mountain, spending time at the cabin with his good friends and family, playing guitar and telling stories—everyone was always welcome. He loved children, and they were drawn to his calm demeanor. On the mountain, the stock rack on his pickup was always full of kids.

He loved being a grandpa and was so happy to have two grandsons, Miles and Lane. He was always excited to see them, and they loved their Papa Jim.

Later in life, he worked with his brother, Dave, on Dave’s farm along with his nephew, Scotty Bischoff.

He had a huge heart and was thoughtful, always remembering everyone’s birthday. He was selfless in all he did and loved to see other people succeed.

Jim is survived by his friend, Cheri Bischoff, sons Jack Bischoff and Wade (Christy) Bischoff and grandsons Miles and Lane Bischoff, all of Lovell, brothers Mack (Kelly) Bischoff of Sheridan and Dave (Jackie) Bischoff of Lovell, sister Kay Hopkin and sister-in-law Kathy Bischoff, both of Lovell and brother-in-law Mike Lewis of Utah, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many great friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter Ame Gifford Bischoff; son Jeffrey James Bischoff; brothers Ron, Doc Gene and Dan; sisters Ann Bischoff and Judy Lewis; brother-in-law Neil Hopkin; sister-in-law Margaret Ann Bischoff; nephews Pat Bischoff and Max Bischoff; niece Brenda Jolley; and father-in-law Andy Gifford.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 20, at 10 a.m. at the Lovell Community Center. Interment will be at the Lovell Cemetery.
