Keith Cowden

Sept. 8, 1933 – July 5, 2022

Keith Cowden, 88, formerly of Lovell, passed away on July 5, 2022, at West Park Hospital after suffering a life-ending stroke.

Keith was born on Sept. 8, 1933, to Earl and Bess Cowden in Sidney, Iowa. Keith’s early years were spent with either a fishing pole or a rifle in hand, except for the time he had a bit of dynamite. There was an old tool shed involved. He claimed by blowing it up he had performed a community service.

Keith was a successful high school athlete, excelling in football and track. He was also an accomplished musician, playing in the band and was the state champion tenor soloist for the state of Iowa. After graduating from Sidney High School in 1951, Keith went to Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri. He left college to join the Army during the Korean War, where he served as a medic. After the war ended, he enrolled at the University of Missouri, where he earned a bachelor’s degree.

While at the University of Missouri he met and married Norma Jean Anshutz. They had three children. Norma Jean died in 1967, and later he married Shirley Carpenter. They had one child from this union.

Keith spent his career as a banker, working as a trust officer and vice president. After retiring, he and Shirley moved to Lovell to spend their retirement years. Keith continued to hunt and fish until the last few years when he got a hiatch in his get-a-long.

Keith is survived by his children, Chris (Shelly) Cowden, Cole (Kathy) Cowden, Cynthia (Tony) Triplett and Evan Cowden; grandchildren Wacey Johnson, True Triplett, Quinn Cowden and Lucas Cowden; and great-grandchildren Paityn and KayDee Triplett and Lela, Gio and Ila Johnson.

A graveside memorial at the Sidney cemetery will be held Sept. 17, 2022.
