Hospital board continues to wrangle with increasing project costs

The North Big Horn Hospital District remains flummoxed by construction costs as the price for multiple projects continue to rise beyond what the district was prepared to pay.
The most significant example is also the most urgent. The district only received one bid to fix the leaking care center roof of the patio of the second floor. The bid, from Groathouse Construction, has a significant pricetag of $502,000.
Hospital CEO Eric Connell described the current weaknesses of the structure to the board.

LHS senior takes on project to paint historic caboose

A few months ago, Lovell High School senior Ireeann Anderson felt moved to do something for her community.
“I had this idea over the summer. I was trying to think of things I could do, and my Grandma (Meg Anderson) wanted to help me out,” Anderson said. “She was like, ‘You know that train behind the high school practice field, it could really use a paint job,’ and that’s kind of where it came from.

Lovell WY TOPP scores were discussed in the October 9 regular meeting of Big Horn County School District No. 2. Lovell students scored above the state in most subject areas during last year’s WY TOPP assessment.

Big Horn 1 approves school spirit and speech and debate groups

The Board of Trustees of Big Horn County School District No. 1 approved two new student clubs during their regular Thursday meaning, introducing a spirit club into Rocky Mountain Middle/High School and a speech and debate team to Burlington High School. 

The first club approved is the Grizzly Spirit Club with an approved stipend of $2,600.

Lovell council approves lawsuit settlement fund agreement

The Lovell Town Council voted at a special meeting Tuesday to proceed with an agreement with Flatirons Bank of Boulder, Colo., to set up an arrangement for the town to be a vehicle for settlement funds in lawsuit cases.

North Big Horn Hospital receives certification for pediatric care

North Big Horn Hospital became the eighth hospital in the state to be certified as a pediatric receiving facility, the end of an arduous process to prepare the hospital to be able to better tackle the treatment of young patients. 

They are the first medical facility in the Big Horn Basin to receive the certification.

Lovell-Kane Museum receives historic railroad warehouse addition

The Lovell-Kane Area Museum has some additional room to display exhibits thanks to the addition of a building that is, in itself, historic.

Third Northwest College basketball player arrested in relation to break-ins

A third Northwest College Basketball player has been arrested in relation to the vandalism of the old Byron High School gym.

Tessi Thong, 19, a transfer student from Australia, was arrested on October 11 under felony counts of burglary and property destruction.
