Changes made in Saturday schedule
One down, two to go. With Mustang Days completed in late June, the next local summer festival on the calendar takes place this weekend in the form of the Byron Days celebration
July 8-9.
According to committee chairwoman Rebecca Bates, the 2022 celebration will carry the theme Hometown Heroes, with the community striving to recognize veterans, first responders, law enforcement, the Neighborhood Watch group and anyone else serving the community.

Mustang Days Parade sees high turnout

The 2022 Mustang Days Parade was an undeniable success.
While last year saw a torrent of rain, this year saw bright, sunny weather and a long line of floats. 
According to parade organizer Kristine Henley, the parade saw 69 floats make the trip up and down Lovell’s Main Street this year, an increase from previous years where the parade typically saw around 50 floats. 
For the second time, the winners in the parade were not determined by judges but by the voting public. Community members on Facebook voted on their favorite floats.

Mustang Days 2022 is here

Mustang Days 2022 is here – at least the first weekend.
The celebration under the theme “Remember” will take place over the next week and a half, featuring nostalgia and respect. 
“We’ll remember those who came before us, who made our community what it is, and our servicemen,” committee chair Darece Grant said.
The celebration begins this Friday, June 17, with the Drag Main event, which became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to get people out of the house in a safe way.

Flag retirement event Tuesday

The Robert Boyd Steward American Legion Post 11 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony for American Flags on Tuesday at the Lovell Veterans Park. 
Program leader Jim Thomas said the program will help educate citizens on how to retire the flag properly while also giving those attending information on the history of the flag. 
“There is not a set procedure, but it is to be done with dignity and respect, and to be properly done the flag should be burned and the ashes buried,” Thomas said. “We developed a program that gives us the opportunity to do that with dignity.”
