The Lovell High School Student Council has a variety of events lined up from March 27 to April 4 aimed to raise money for the Wyoming Make-A-Wish initiative.

Make-A-Wish is a non-profit organization that grants life changing wishes to children with terminal illnesses, aiming to bring joy, hope and strength to them and their families. The Make-A-Wish Wyoming Foundation has been granting wishes for kids in Wyoming for 39 years and counting. The LHS Student Council aims to contribute to the initiative by hosting a Make-A-Wish Week where all proceeds will go directly to the Make-A-Wish Wyoming Foundation.

The first fundraiser is already in action as the student council works with the LHS National Honor Society to run a change drive competition among all K-12 grades in the three schools. The grade that raises the most money during the change drive will be rewarded with donuts for their entire grade to enjoy. The change drive started Tuesday, March 25, and is expected to wrap up Thursday, April 3.

Lovell’s SkillsUSA chapter has also agreed to help fundraise for the initiative by partnering with The Market. While checking out, customers have the chance to drop their spare change into a Make-A-Wish jar at any of the checkout stands. The jars are already out at The Market and will remain there until the afternoon of April 3. The Lovell SkillsUSA chapter has also pledged to price-match the profits they make off of this fundraiser.

This Thursday, March 27, the student council encourages all community members to attend and enjoy the movie “Wonder” at the Hyart Theatre. The movie starts at 7 p.m., and the entry fee is a donation of your choice. Popcorn will be free and will last until the supply runs out.

Jumping into the following week, community members will have a chance to donate their spare change at the showings of Lovell High School’s musical performance of “Aladdin Jr.” Change will be collected before the shows on March 31 and April 1.

On Thursday, April 3, LHS students will participate in a school-wide competition. The Bead Challenge incorporates a friendly game of rock-paper-scissors between students. That morning, every student will receive a bead necklace. Between passing periods and lunch, students will have the opportunity to challenge other students to a game of rock-paper-scissors. The winner of the match will receive all the loser’s bead necklaces.

Once a student has five bead necklaces, they can challenge a teacher for their beads, as well. Once a student has lost all of their beads, they are out of the game. However, students have the opportunity to get back into the game by purchasing a set of beads at the office. The top eight students with the most beads by the end of the day on Thursday will be featured during the pep rally the following day for the ultimate rock-paper-scissors showdown.

Friday, April 4, will conclude the Make-A-Wish Week with the pep rally at the Johnny Winterholler Gymnasium after lunch. The Student Council encourages students to bring their spare dollars to use in parts of the pep rally.

The rally will hold a variety of games and challenges throughout the last two periods of the day, which range from a game of musical chairs to challenging teachers to walk over a trail of Legos. The conclusion of the pep rally will reveal the winners of the change drive and the final amount of money raised.
