Local FFA students place in speech competition

Several members of the Lovell and Rocky Mountain FFA chapters competed last Wednesday, March 5, at the District FFA Speech contest held at RMHS in Cowley.

The Lovell chapter had five members competing, three in FFA creed and two in prepared public speaking, with the top three in each category advancing to the regional competition Monday in Thermopolis.

Freshman Kelce Winterholler placed first in creed, with freshman Sara Wood third. Sophomore Addisyn Perkins placed first in prepared speaking, with sophomore Kate Cooper third. Freshman Whitney Asay also competed in creed.

Cooper, Perkins, Winterholler and Wood competed at the regional competition in Thermop Monday, with the top two in each category advancing, and Perkins advanced to the state competition, which will be held at the Wyoming State FFA Convention in Cheyenne in April.

Perkins’ topic was on current issues effecting agriculture focusing on mental health and public perception, as well as livestock and environmental scrutiny.

For Rocky Mountain, sophomore Charlee Welling placed fourth in creed speaking, and senior Hayden Wambeke placed second in extemporaneous speaking.
