Lovell-Kane Museum hosts back to school BBQ fundraiser
As the summer days wind down and the new school year approaches, the Lovell-Kane Area Museum is inviting the community to come together for a special event. On Monday, August 19, the museum will host a “Back to School BBQ Fundraiser” in front of its doors, running from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The evening promises good food, live music and a chance to support the museum.
“This event is vital for raising funds to restore an older building that will house the restored old Kane school wagon, as well as for future cleanup and maintenance at the Sand Draw Cemetery,” said Angie Hutzenbiler, the museum’s media officer.
Additionally, the funds will help cover the museum’s operational costs through the winter months, ensuring it remains a vibrant part of the community.
Hutzenbiler, who joined the museum board in the spring of 2023, has quickly become an integral part of the team, using her skills to enhance the museum’s outreach efforts.
“The museum is solely volunteer-based and survives off of fundraising, grants and donations,” Hutzenbiler said. “Fundraisers like this one and support from our great community make an immense difference in what we can accomplish project-wise, as well as allowing the museum to stay open and operational, hopefully for many more years to come.”
The BBQ menu will offer a choice between hotdog or bratwurst meals, accompanied by the museum’s signature “old-fashioned sodas.” Guests can enjoy live music by Garrett Randolph, adding to the festive atmosphere. In addition to the food and music, there will be a silent auction featuring a variety of items generously donated by local businesses and community members.
Karen Spragg, the museum board president, has been with the museum since its formation in 2011, when it started in her own home. Her passion for history, genealogy and research has been the driving force behind the museum’s growth over the years.
“Come out and join the fun. We look forward to seeing everyone,” Spragg said.
For those who have yet to explore the museum, this event offers a perfect opportunity.
“Folks can come down and grab a bite, check out our silent auction, listen to music and take a stroll through the museum,” Hutzenbiler said.
To make the evening even more special, the museum is planning some “back-to-school” themed activities for kids, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The Back to School BBQ Fundraiser will be a celebration of local heritage and a show of support for the museum that preserves it. Whether you’re there for the food, the music or just to enjoy the company of neighbors, come down and enjoy yourself, Hutzenbiler and Spragg said.
