North Big Horn Rams claim first in freestyle at home meet

This past Saturday the North Big Horn Rams Wrestling Club welcomed 13 other teams to their home mats for a tournament at the Johnny Winterholler Gymnasium. The folkstyle portion of the tournament took place in the morning, and a handful of local wrestlers managed to reign at the top of their brackets. Overall, the club took fourth place as a team with 168.5 points.
Cotey Smith went undefeated in the 8U 49-pound division, pinning two of his opponents and beating his final opponent by an 8-7 decision.
Anthony Mcillwaine claimed first place after pinning his opponent twice in under a minute in the 8U 85+ weight division.
Cayden Dickerson came out first in 10U 53-56 division, going 3-0.
Gabriel Patina pinned both of his opponents in the 10U 105 bracket to claim first place.
Alex Mcillwaine pinned his opponent twice in the 12U 160-168 bracket to take home first.
Knox Hitz pinned two of his opponents in under a minute and claimed a 13-0 major decision to land him in first in the 6U 43 – 45 division.
Duncan Clark also pinned two of his opponents and beat the third by a 10-3 decision in the 6U 53-58 division to take home first.
Raegan Dickerson went 3-0 in folkstyle and pinned all three of her opponents to take first place in the girls 8U 50-54 division.
Kali Jameson ran through all three of her opponents by pinning them in the 8U girls 62 – 63 division to place first.

Third place: Brecklyn Whiting, 8U Girls 50-54; Corban Haslem, 8U 46; August Guccion, 10U 67.
Fourth place: Isabella Martinez, 14U 165.
Other competitors were Kannon Bassett, Maddox Baxendale, Jace Brost, Heinrich Goerzen, Zayn Goerzen, Connor Grant, Boone Guccion, August Guccion, Lillyan Hansen, Mason Haslem, Corbin Haslem, Joel Henley, Hadley Henton and
Roman Martinez.
Freestyle champs
The Freestyle tournament took place later on Saturday afternoon, and the North Big Horn Rams came out on top with 270.5 points.
Clark took first place in the 6U 53-56 weight class, pinning his opponent both times in the first period to take gold.
Kali Jameson took first place in the girls 8U 68-72 weight class by beating her opponent twice. Jameson double-bracketed and took first in the 8U 62-70 division, avenging her loss to an opponent she took second to earlier that day in the folkstyle tournament.
Bradley Abraham took first in the tournament, competing in the 8U 40-43 division, pinning his first opponent and gaining a 17-7 tech-fall over his second opponent.
Smith went 3-0 in the
8U 45-49 division, putting him on top of his bracket in first place.
Havana Martinez competed in the 8U 85 division, beating her opponent twice to land her in first place.
Hecker beat two of his opponents by tech-fall and pinned his third in the first period to place first in the 10U 53-56 division.
Corbin Henley pinned all three of his opponents in the first period to take first place in the 10U 93-100 division.
Harshman pinned three of his opponents in under a minute and beat his fourth by an 8-5 decision to land him in first place of the 12U 92-97 division.

Third place: Maddox Baxendale, 8U 53; Mickelson, 14U girls 115-121; Carabay, 14U 92-99; Alex Mcillwaine 14U 165-168.
Fourth place: Grant, 8U 53; Roman Martinez, 8U 56; Joel Henley, 10U 77-79; Henton, 10U 93-100; Jace Jameson, 12U 92-97; Isabella Martinez, 14U 165-168.
Other competitors were Bassett, Raegan Dickerson, Boone Guccion, August Guccion, Joel Henley, Corbin Henley, Henton, Havana Martinez and Anthony Mcillwaine.
This weekend the North Big Horn Rams Wrestling Club will have the opportunity to wrestle either at the Greybull tournament this Saturday, March 23, or at the Montana Open in Billings March 22-24.
