RMMS cagers survive busy stretch of games
Playing 11 games in five days, the Rocky Mountain Middle School boys basketball teams survived the brutal stretch to produce five wins.
The Grizzly eighth graders dropped three of the four contests, falling to Lovell at home Thursday, 40-28, clobbering Ten Sleep at home Friday, 39-13, losing to Greybull on the road Saturday, 31-16, and falling by 12 points at Powell Monday afternoon, 40-28.
In the Lovell game, Lukas Miller led the Grizz with 9 points, and Jaxx May added 8 points and eight rebounds, Jaxson Sponsel 5 points and 10 boards, Jayden Scheeler 4 points and Dally Malson 2.
May poured in 21 points as the Grizzlies blitzed Ten Sleep Friday. Sponsel added 11 points, Miller 4 and Tejeo Scheeler, Cameron Minchow and Jayden Scheeler 1 point each.
The Grizz had trouble putting points on the board Saturday in Greybull. May led the team with 6 points, and Malson added 4, Jayden Scheeler 3, Tejeo Scheeler 2 and Minchow 1.
May nearly recorded a double-double at Powell Monday night, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds. Sponsel added 6 points, Minchow 5, Miller 3, Malson 2 and Jayden Scheeler 1.
Seventh grade
The Rocky Mountain seventh-grade squad won three of four games during the busy stretch. The Grizz edged Lovell 26-25, clubbed Ten Sleep 43-3, stopped Greybull 45-16 and fell to Powell 37-23.
Malson led the Grizzlies with 10 points and nine rebounds in the win over Lovell, and Ty Samson added 8 points, Madden Cooley 5, Brooks Brost 2 and Wyatt Blank 1.
Malson led a balanced attack against Ten Sleep Friday with 10 points and four rebounds. Brost scored 9 points, Samson and Hudson Moore 8 each, Blank 4 and Cooley and Tyler Crosby 2 apiece.
Samson and Moore scored 10 points each in Rocky’s 45-16 win at Greybull Saturday. Brost and Cooley added 8 points apiece, Malson 4, Blank 3 and Crosby 2. Malson recorded nine rebounds, Crosby five, and Moore finished with a team high five steals.
Malson recorded 12 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots in Rocky’s loss at Powell Monday. Moore added 7 points and five rebounds, Samson and Crosby 2 points each. Blank snared nine rebounds.
Sixth grade
The RMMS sixth graders dropped a heartbreaker to Lovell in overtime Thursday, 24-20, beat Ten Sleep 16-12 Friday and fell at Greybull Saturday 35-21.
Tripp Hopkin led Rocky with 5 points against Lovell, and William Simmons added 4, Xavier Hetland 3, Nolan Hedges, Henry Picone, Cody Kougal and Karter Miller 2 apiece.
Miller scored 5 points against Ten Sleep Friday, Simmons 4, Hedges, Trevin Green and Hopkin 2 apiece, Hetland 1. Picone grabbed seven rebounds, Kaden Baker five.
Simmons scored 6 points at Greybull Saturday, Hetland and Picone 4 each, Hopkin 3 and Baker and Miller 2 apiece.
After the busy stretch, the Grizzlies have only one date on the schedule this week, a pair of games at Meeteetse Friday at 3 p.m.
