Sheriff report: Dispute involves pet rabbit allergic to smoke

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of June 2-8:

June 2: 10:06 a.m. – A deputy noticed an abandoned vehicle just north of the Byron Cemetery on Road 5. The deputy tagged the vehicle to be towed (24-hour notice), and it was gone the next day.

5:27 p.m. – The Sheriff’s Office responded to Barry’s Landing to assist the National Park Service with a call regarding a disoriented female at the site.

June 3: 4:28 p.m. – A representative of the Sidon Canal District out of Cowley reported someone trespassing and tampering with a “canal backer” near Cowley. The case is under investigation.

June 4: 7:16 a.m. – A deputy noticed a load of gravel in the street on the west end of Main Street. Dispatch contacted WyDOT for cleanup.

8:23 p.m. – A loose calf on South Division in Cowley was put back in its pasture by a deputy.

June 5: 8:25 a.m. – Sheriff Ken Blackburn returned a wayward cow to its pasture just west of Cowley.

9:16 a.m. – A deputy assisted at the scene of a car vs. deer collision about two miles northeast of Byron on U.S. 14A. There were no injuries to the occupants of the car, and a deputy removed the deer from the highway. The highway patrol investigated the collision.

11:43 a.m. – Deputies responded to a report of a “black calf wandering alone” about two miles west of Cowley on U.S. 310 and upon arrival found the owners putting the calf back in the pasture.

5:11 p.m. – A deputy removed wood from the roadway on Road 7 near Lovell.

6:34 p.m. – A caller reported following a white Silverado pickup with Park County plates that was failing to maintain a lane of travel. The caller said the truck drove into Lovell and turned off Main Street. The Lovell Police Department was notified.

7:22 p.m. – A caller reported a suspicious person in the form of a man with a dog on the south side of the LDS Church building in Cowley. A deputy was unable to locate the individual.

10:17 p.m. – A woman living in a trailer on property south of Byron on Wyoming 32 became upset when a member of the family who owned the property started a small backyard fire, saying she felt threatened because “her pet rabbit is allergic to smoke.” A sheriff spokesman said it is part of an ongoing dispute.

June 6: 12:08 a.m. – A deputy noticed a parked Nissan pickup in Byron unoccupied with its lights left on. The officer attempted to notify the occupants of the home where the vehicle was parked, but there was no answer.

2:59 p.m. – A caller reported that a blue semi flatbed truck “flew by them” in Frannie at a high rate of speed. A deputy responded and followed the truck but could observe no infractions.

June 7: 10:27 a.m. – A caller reported a white Enterprise delivery truck driving up and down Road 10 near Lovell at a high rate of speed. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the vehicle.

1:43 p.m. – A REDDI report for a silver Buick unable to maintain a lane of travel west of Byron was rolled over to the Park County law enforcement when the car crossed the county line.

5:18 p.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department at the scene of a domestic incident on Kansas Avenue.

5:56 p.m. – A deputy assisted the LPD with a suicidal subject on Montana Avenue in Lovell. 

Arrest: There was one arrest this week. Liana Elise Welde, 21, of Lovell was arrested for aggravated assault and battery, reckless endangerment/conduct and domestic assault in a domestic incident between her and her mother at their home east of Lovell.
