Private pesticide applicator programs planned next month at BHC Weed & Pest

The University of Wyoming Extension will offer private pesticide applicator education programs next month at Big Horn County Weed & Pest, located at 4782 U.S. Highway 310 west of Greybull.  Dates are Feb. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon and Feb. 28 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Private applicator licenses are required for anyone who applies or supervises the application of Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs).

Big Horn County sticker concept contest open

If you could put the essence of Big Horn County on a sticker, what would it look like? Wild horses, dinosaurs, waterfalls, mountains, canyons and much more could be a part of the design.
Big Horn County, Grow Greybull, and the Lovell Area and Basin Area chambers are asking that question of the public because a Big Horn County sticker is set to become a part of the Wyoming Office of Tourism’s (WOT) Track Your Trip program.

Sheriff’s report: Alarms found to be false

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department received the following calls for the week of January 15 to January 21:
January 15: 12:58 a.m.: A carbon monoxide alarm went off on Lane 6 near Cowley and the scene was cleared. No issues were found with carbon monoxide.
6:12 p.m.: An officer initiated a traffic stop at milepost 223 near Lovell. A grey Jeep was cited for speed and a verbal warning for registration.

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of January 15 to January 21:
January 16: 1:24 p.m.- A scam was reported. An individual had called the reporting party asking for money for a discounted network through Dish Network. The reporting party called Dish Network and was told the call was a scam.

Reclamation issues snowmelt forecast for Big Horn River Basin

BILLINGS — The Bureau of Reclamation’s January forecast of the April through July runoff predicted for the Big Horn River Basin is as follows:
Big Horn Lake – Big Horn River April through July inflow to Big Horn Lake is forecast to be approximately 1,045,000 acre-feet (af), which is 83% of the 30-year average of 1,264,000 af. As of January 1, Big Horn Lake is 93% full.

Wyoming’s Food, Fun, 4-H Program encourages families to cook together

Organized by the University of Wyoming Extension, the program provides families with monthly recipes, educational materials and cooking utensils free of charge.

UW Research and Extension to offer seminar on crop production in alkaline soils

The University of Wyoming Extension will offer a seminar on alkaline soil management Wednesday, Feb. 14, through Thursday, Feb. 15, in Cody. Virtual attendance options are also available.
The event is designed for commercial crop producers, crop consultants, crop advisors and ag service field personnel. The goal is to help Wyoming producers deal with alkaline soils, whether they grow forage crops, row crops, niche commodities or vegetables.

Utah Tech University releases honor roll

Lilyan Edwards of Lovell has been named to the President’s List at Utah Tech University in St. George for the fall 2023 semester.
To qualify, students must achieve a semester minimum GPA of 3.9 and have completed at least 15 credits.

 

Northwest College fall honor rolls

Northwest College has announced its 2023 fall semester honor rolls, including local students.
To be listed on the President’s Honor Roll, students must complete at least 12 semester hours of college-level coursework with a 4.0 grade point average. Students qualifying for the Vice President’s Honor Roll completed the same level coursework with a minimum grade point average of 3.5. For the Dean’s Honor roll, students must have earned a minimum of six credit hours in college-level coursework with at least a 3.5 semester grade point average.
