Laursen and Banks keynote speakers at chamber luncheon

Sen. Dan Laursen and Rep. Dalton Banks were the featured speakers at the Lovell Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon held in Lovell on April 15. The pair commented about the most recent session of the Wyoming Legislature and fielded questions from a group of local business leaders and community members.
Banks commented that his first term in office was like “drinking out of fire hose,” but noted the most recent session already seemed a bit easier to manage.

FFA members return from successful state convention

A total of 17 Lovell High School FFA students competed in team and individual events during the recent Wyoming State FFA Convention held in Cheyenne April 10-13.  Team members shined bright at the competition.
Addisyn Perkins walked away with the state FFA creed title and will be representing the state of Wyoming in October at the national FFA convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Croix Tryon earned her State FFA Degree.

Something for everyone at Veterans Resource Fair

There’s one message veteran Nicolle Laffin wants to relay to her fellow veterans: “You are not alone.”
Laffin, a retired combat veteran herself, is a Wyoming Veterans Commission member serving the 5th Judicial District. The district is hosting a Veterans Resource Fair at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds in Basin on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fire Department sees uptick in calls as weather warms and spring burning continues

It’s spring, and with the good weather comes spring cleaning and an increase in fire incidents. Lovell Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Bob Mangus said this time of the year is typically a busy time of the year for the all-volunteer fire department in Lovell. The firefighters responded to calls this week that involved both brush fires and broken gas lines.

Police Report: Two reports of attempts to steal catalytic converters lead to investigations

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of April 15 - 21:
April 15: Officers received a report that two male juveniles were sprayed with a squirt gun from a passing car. The liquid appeared to be water.
April 16: Lovell Middle School conducted an active fire drill.
April 17: A resident reported being charged by two loose dogs. One dog nipped his left hand but did not break the skin. The owner of the dogs was given a verbal warning to keep his dogs under control.

Sheriff’s report: Suspicious underwear prompts inquiry

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of April 15-21:
April 17: Deputies received a report of a person walking on the side of the highway near Byron. The person had run out of gas and was walking to town to purchase some gas.
April 18: A report was received regarding a cow on the road on Highway 14A near Lovell.
Deputies fielded a complaint about kids racing on a road in Cowley.

Average gas prices nudge up

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Average gasoline prices in Wyoming have risen 1.1 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.30 per gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy.com’s survey of 494 stations in Wyoming.
Prices in Wyoming are 19.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the lowest price in the state Sunday was $2.83 per gallon, while the highest was $3.97, a difference of $1.14 per gallon.

Bighorn Canyon road work will impact the Lovell Visitor Center

Road work has begun, and the contractors are on schedule for the highway project underway in the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area.
Milling and patching at the south district entrance road continues this week. Visitors should expect single lane closures during the day, and the road will be open overnight with traffic delineation through the active worksites.

Lovell choral groups, solos receive top honors at performance assessments

Lovell High School choir director Carisa French last week announced the scores for the LHS choir program at the annual Music Performance Assessments held April 15-16 at Northwest College in Powell.
The LHS Show Choir received “Division One” ratings (I) from all three judges, while the Concert Choir received two Division One ratings and one Division Two rating from judges, giving the choir an average rating of 1-minus.
