Another road trip is calling to me

Each winter, I get the urge to pack it up and do a road trip. I have the urge really bad this year. How bad? I’m selling my house and clearing out all the dust covered junk I have collected for the past 16 years I’ve lived here. It’s a great house with all the lilies, and the garden is a big producer and the raspberries? Oh, yeah!

I have never had a year where I lost so many friends or have friends lose their loved ones as I think this past fall season of 2024 and now January 2025 since the garbage COVID. I’m down to a few friends here and only a couple back east that I use to have adventures with, so it is time to hit the road to visit them and maybe write another book. I’ll be traveling from here to Montana, to Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Arkansas and on and on.

When I travel/camp, I go from one lake to another so I always wake up on a lake. About 2000, I took a road trip with friends, and we traveled I-80 to Idaho. It’s been 25 years before that since I had been at USU, Logan, Utah, and as we traveled I-80, I saw a turn-off sign that was new to me for Logan, and I missed the exit. I told my navigator to check the map - “a map?” - yep, that long ago. So he pulled my maps out of the glove box and told me the turnoff wasn’t on the map.

That can’t be right, so we checked again: Oh, look, the map was dated 1972! I’m so glad I never throw stuff away. So we ended driving to Salt Lake City and up I-15 to Idaho. Ugh! This trip will be with more modern ways to find my way around the states.

But then I woke up. I was air flighted to Billings Clinic where I laid unconscious for a few days until I regained my memory. Did you know that’s what food poisoning will do to you? My blood spiked at 1300 plus. So, a few days there until I regained my memory, and then shipped back down to NBHH.

I spent numerous days at NBHH where I enjoyed having my food cooked, the room cleaned, the bed changed and myself washed. About a nice six or more days there and here I am back home with three feet of snow or more. The first thoughts of travel and I ended up right back where I started from, but those thoughts of travel are still in the works. Let’s hope I have a lot of life left. Keep warm!
