Area swimmers continue to excel with Powell team

On Friday, Jan. 16, the Powell Boys Swimming Team traveled to Worland for a five-team meet. At this meet, Lovell senior Hugh Carpenter placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:37.35 and third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.90.

Rocky Mountain senior Will Fuller took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.35 and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:07.72. Lovell junior Gabe Buchholz placed third in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:27.21 and eighth in the 100-yard fly, touching the wall in 1:10.38.

Rocky sophomore Ethan Haslem placed 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:30.33 and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:19.44.

During this meet, Buchholz qualified for State in the 200-yard IM, and Fuller qualified in the 200-yard free.  

On Saturday, the team traveled back to Worland to compete in the Worland Invitational against six other teams. Carpenter placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.87 and second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.18. Fuller placed fifth in the 100-yard fly with a time of 1:06.16 and sixth in the 200-yard IM at 2:20.84.

Buchholz placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.40 and ninth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:08.91. Haslem placed 19th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:18.76 and 20th in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 33.31.  

The Panthers are hosting a triangular at the Powell Aquatic Center on Friday, and then they are on the road again as they travel to the Lander Invitational on Saturday.
