Betty Jo Tindle

Oct. 20, 1958 – May 5, 2023

Betty Jo Tindle passed away peacefully Friday, May 5, 2023, in Gainesville, Florida, with family members by her side.

She was born October 20,1958, in La Mesa, San Diego, California, to William Lawrence Tindle Sr. and Kathryn Lucille Pendergrass Tindle.

She was the oldest of four children. The family moved several times while Betty Jo was growing up. She lived in California, Alabama, Indiana, Montana and Arizona by the time she turned 18. She went to high school in Butte, Montana, and Tucson, Arizona, where she made lifelong friends.

She was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having been stationed in Germany and Massachusetts.

She loved adventures, and if they were spontaneous, all the better. No car ride was complete without the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band singing “Fishin’ in the Dark.”

Betty Jo was adored by her nieces and nephews, and she loved each of them very much.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Wayne Tindle, parents William L. Tindle Sr. and Kathryn L. Tindle and grandparents Phil Wesley Tindle and Ida Belle Scroggins Tindle and Howard Dickson Pendergrass Sr. and Kathryn Alma Osborn Pendergrass Fernald.

She is survived by her brothers, William Lawrence (Elaine) Tindle Jr.  of Ramona, California, and Wesley Drake Tindle of Byron; sister Elizabeth LuDeanne (Chris) Guenther of Mayo, Florida; 14 nieces and nephews; and 22 great-nieces and -nephews.

A private family burial will be held June 2 at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, where she will be buried with her son. A celebration of life will be held June 3.
