The Cal S. Taggart Visitor Center in Lovell will move to winter hours starting Oct. 1, 2023, Bighorn Canyon officials announced this week. The visitor center will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be closed on Sunday and Monday and most federal holidays throughout the winter. The park is working to keep this schedule, however, going into the fall and winter, the visitor center may be subject to unplanned closures due to minimum staffing. The aquatic invasive species (AIS) check station at the Crooked Creek Ranger Station near Horseshoe Bend closed on September 5. If boaters need to have their boat inspected, the staff at the Lovell visitor center can inspect the boat. Boaters are asked to call in advance to ensure a certified inspector will be on duty. For current lake conditions, check on AIS inspections or help planning a visit, visitors may call the Cal S. Taggart Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center at 307-548-5406.
