Rocky Mountain High School senior Brittly Boettcher will take her volleyball career to the next level, it was announced this week, by signing a letter of intent to play at Dickinson State University in Dickinson, North Dakota.

Though a three-sport athlete at RMHS, excelling in volleyball, basketball and track, Boettcher said her favorite sport is volleyball.

“I like the team aspect of it,” she said at a signing ceremony at the RMHS Gym December 23. “There’s more of a team aspect than the other sports, and I just enjoy it more.”

Boettcher was a three-year starter and four-year letter winner and varsity player for the Lady Grizzlies, mostly as an outside hitter, although Rocky head coach Stephanie Ames noted, “She can play well all the way around.”

The daughter of Ryan and Camaren Boettcher, Brittly is a three-time 2A Northwest All-Conference selection, a 2A All-State pick and was named both 2A Northwest and 2A West player of the year.

Boettcher plans to major in elementary education at Dickinson State and said it was an easy choice to attend DSU and play for the Blue Hawks, noting, “It’s close enough, and I have family there, but it’s also far enough away. And they have a really good elementary ed program.”

Father Ryan is a Dickinson State graduate, and “Brit” was able to practice with the current Blue Hawks squad just before Thanksgiving, after which DSU head coach Stormy Siemion offered a position on the team.

Coach Ames said Boettcher’s versatility is a major strength, noting, “She’s very adaptive and can play any position. She’s got a very good volleyball head. She reads the opponent’s offense well and gets in position to play defense whether it’s front row or back row.

“She can get up above the net, which is super beneficial for hitting and blocking. She’s short of stature, but she can get above most of the players (with her jumping ability). She’s super strong, even at the top of her jump.”

Dickinson State is a member of the North Star Athletic Association, playing at the NAIA level. Coach Siemion could not be reached for comment before press time.
