Bryce Haslem to serve a mission to Belgium and the Netherlands
Bryce Haslem will serve the next two years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Belgium/Netherlands Mission.
He spoke in the Cowley 2nd Ward on October 19, began his home-missionary training on November 3 and entered the Missionary Training Center in Provo on November 12. His mission is headquartered in Leiden, Netherlands. The combined Belgium/Netherlands area includes about 15,800 church members organized into five stakes, giving Bryce the opportunity to work with a diverse and faithful membership spread across both countries.
In his farewell remarks, Haslem shared his desire to teach about the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ and to serve the people in any way he can. He acknowledged some nervousness about learning a new language and expressed deep appreciation for the ward and community and all they have taught him. He is scheduled to fly to Europe near the end of the year.
To give local readers a sense of scale: Belgium and the Netherlands together cover roughly 51,000 square miles, while Wyoming spans almost 98,000 square miles. In other words, the entire mission area is about half the size of Wyoming, yet it includes two nations, multiple major cities and a combined population of more than 29 million people.
