Bulldog grapplers show well at Spartan Invitational

After a strong showing in their first dual of the season last Thursday at home against Powell, the Lovell Middle School wrestling team continued to impress Saturday at the Spartan Invitational in Riverton. 

Although results from the Powell dual weren’t recorded, head coach Quinton Hecker said, “They wrestled well against a very tough Powell team and were able to come out with some exciting wins. The middle school cheer team and community really showed their support for us, which made a huge difference.”

Saturday, the wrestlers competed against teams from all across Wyoming at the Spartan Invitational in Riverton, where several athletes placed near the top.

Coach Hecker expressed pride in the team’s results, saying, “It was an awesome showing from the wrestling team. Our wrestlers performed the best the coaches have ever seen in middle school wrestling.” 

The wrestlers who placed included both Garrett Henley and Hayden Harshman, who placed first. Henley won three of three matches in the 138-pound weight class, and Harshman won four of four matches in the 105-pound weight class.

Alexander Mcillwaine placed second at 190 pounds, winning three of his four matches, and Carson Marberry placed third in the 85-pound weight class, winning four of his five matches. Landon Asay placed fourth in the 115-pound weight class, winning three of five matches.

After expressing pride for his team’s performance, Hecker closed by saying, “Each player left with bumps, bruises and heads held high.” 

Moving on with their successful season, the wrestlers will compete in Powell this Saturday at 10 a.m.
