The Lovell Bulldog wrestling team had a successful weekend as the Bulldogs competed in a triangular dual meet in Basin Thursday and a two-day tournament in Shoshoni Friday and Saturday.

The team brought home several placers from the Clash at the Crossroads tournament in Shoshoni where the Bulldogs placed fifth as a team.

The team first competed at a dual triangular Thursday night in Basin against Rocky Mountain and Greybull/Riverside. By the end of the night, the Bulldogs were triumphant over the Grizzlies but fell short in their dual against Greybull/Riverside.

The team faced off against Rocky Mountain’s varsity lineup first. Wrestlers Dino Delacruz, Mason Christenson, Hunter Krei and Owen Hill scored points for the Bulldogs by defeating their opponents. The Bulldogs secured a win against the Grizzlies by the final score of 47-22.

The team finished the dual by wrestling Greybull/Riverside. Rudy Hall, Delacruz and Christenson pinned their opponents to secure points for their team. The bulldogs battled hard but ultimately fell short and gave up a few matches to end with a loss, of 40-30.

Shoshoni tournament

On the weekend, the team attended the Clash at the Crossroads tournament in Shoshoni. This newly introduced tournament brought together several tough teams with wrestlers competing for the first-place prize of a Spartan helmet. Several Bulldogs managed to walk away with a top-three finish in their bracket.

Danika Crumrine wrestled tough on the mat in the 145-pound girls weight class. Crumrine faced off against Tawny Bertolini of Greybull/Riverside for first place. A pin in 1:23 secured the win for Crumrine and awarded her the Spartan helmet as a trophy.

Christenson competed in the 138-pound bracket and defeated two opponents to land him in the finals against Zavier Clifford of Big Piney. Christenson ended the tournament in second place with an overall record of 2-1.

Kasey Jordan worked his way to the finals of the 190-pound bracket, defeating some tough competition. Jordan pinned his first opponent in the first period and faced off against Zack Kuntz of Greybull/Riverside in the semifinals, an opponent he had lost to in the dual triangular the day before. Jordan held his ground against Kuntz and won the match by a sudden victory fall, placing him in the finals against Ryder Pope of Cokeville. Jordan finished in second place Saturday.

Maecie Joy wrestled tough in the 130-pound weight class at Shoshoni, going 2-1 and placing second in her bracket.

Avery Layne wrestled in the 155-pound girls bracket, pinning her Rocky Mountain opponent to land her in the finals against Alix Sorensen of Thermopolis. Layne finished the tournament in second place.

Delacruz wrestled in the 132-pound division this weekend. A tough semi-final match threw him over to the left side of the bracket to work for third place. Delacruz held his position on the mat and defeated his next two opponents to secure third place and end the weekend with a record of 3-1.

Hudsen Mickelson wrapped up his weekend with some good wins in the 120-pound bracket. A tough loss in the quarterfinals sent Mickelson to work his way through the left side of the bracket. He defeated three opponents in the consolation rounds to land him in a third-place match against Canyon Schell of Big Piney. Mickelson pinned Schell in the final seconds of the second period to take third place in his bracket.

Harley Tillett competed in the 105-pound girls weight class this weekend. Tillett lost her first match and was sent to wrestle for third place against Kaydence Guest of Big Piney. Tillett pinned Guest in 44 seconds to place third place in her bracket.

Kaylynn Mickelson also lost a tough first match in the 110-pound girls bracket and was sent back to wrestle for third place against Cadance Cary of Big Piney, an opponent she had lost to the day before. Mickelson stayed tough through three periods and avenged her loss against the Big Piney opponent with a final decision of 11-5, placing Mickelson third.

This weekend the Bulldogs have two events lined up for them.
