State Speech and Debate was held last weekend in Cheyenne and Burlington ended its season on a high note.

Placings are done differently at the state meet. There are overall placings and then those placings are broken down by school size in each event. Overall, Raygen Andrew broke in Informative semis, Kitzen Schatz broke in Lincoln Douglas octa and Student Congress Supers, Aubbri Wagner broke in Informative semis. When broken down by school size to 1A/2A, Sierra Elliot got second in Extemporaneous Speaking, Wagner took third in Informative, Andrew took second in Informative and Schatz took first in Lincoln Debate and Student Congress.

“We had a great season,” said Coach Scott McBride. “Miss St. Clair and I are so proud of the team. They have worked so hard all year long. We have seen the team and individuals grow so much in their presentation skills, confidence and speaking skills. I should also point out that they have become very good at defending their position. Speech is a great activity. I highly recommend becoming part of the speech team.”
