Byron News: The Halloween spirit alive and well in Byron

There are a few folks who get in the Halloween groove and decorate outside for the rest of us to enjoy.  Starting on the corner of Main and Big Horn, Shane and Stephanie Wagner have their yard decked out. Just behind them, Gary Petrich and Michelle are lit up reflecting the holiday spirit.

Going west on Main just past Heart Mountain next to the church, Kody and Hailey Davis are also lit up in Halloween colors. Travel on and turn left at the corner and go to Shoshone and take another left and you will be delighted to see the whole block decorated with inflatables including large dragons around a caldron at the home of Carolyn and Shawn Cox. It’s a fun little walk or drive to enjoy someone else’s hard work to bring some fun to the neighborhoods. 

We have three new homes being built on Big Horn North and South. One is a new home for the David Sanders family. David grew up here in Byron, and it is great to have him bringing his family back to live. Just across the street another project is under way by Bret George, and south to the end of Big Horn is a home that is being built taking the place of a mobile home that has been moved.  It will be fun to watch the progress taking place.  

Speaking of progress, I have to mention again the home that the Shetlers bought a while back. I have written before about the big project they undertook in a house that had sat empty for years. The work they have put into the interior as well as hauling off many, many old vehicles that had piled up in the backyard made a huge difference. This summer they started on the outside of the house.

You must drive by. The transformation is amazing. I am so glad someone was able to see the potential of that worn out shambles of a place on the corner of Platte and Heart Mountain. They have turned it into a beautiful home. Well done.

I ended up digging up my geraniums while still in bloom as well as my blooming Canna Lilies and one beautiful variegated Dahlia. Hopefully, I can winter them according to directions from my expert friend, Elaine Abraham. I may have jumped the gun a bit, but there was one warm day that drew me outside with spade in hand. Pumpkins and skeletons are now situated on the porch as a nod to Halloween.

The Halloween Pyromusical was another fireworks spectacular put on by Caleb and Josh Sanders. The weather looked a little iffy in the afternoon but was perfect in time for the show. The spooky music was in-sync with the beautiful array of colors filling the sky. Nachos with cheese and pulled pork was served to over 100 attendees. The food was sponsored by Quantum Energy Corporation. What a nice kick-off to the season.  

People joke about having to change clothes three times a day to adjust to our cold mornings that turn into sunshiny afternoons only to drop temperature in the evening. It’s no joke. Turn on the heat in the car in the morning and switch to AC by noon. It’s kinda crazy, but I’ll take that warmth as long as it lasts.  

Don’t forget to bring your little spooks and goblins to the trunk or treat in front of Byron Town Hall starting at 6 on Halloween night (Thursday, Oct. 31). Hot dogs and dessert will be served.
