Eighteen teams competed in the annual Mustang Days volleyball tournament on Saturday afternoon with the Chewblockas winning the title in the gold bracket.

The Chewblockas took on Team We Dig It in the championship match and won 25-22 and 25-17 in the best of three sets.

Members of the winning squad were Nicole Hessenthaler, Carson Hessenthaler, Stephanie Durtsche, Zack Durtsche, Rian McIntosh and Jared McIntosh.

“It was really great to see younger teams there and getting the youth involved,” Nicole Hessenthaler said of the tournament, noting two teams were composed of 12-year-olds.

“We had teams from here and Powell and saw them making changes to lineups to play better and be more competitive, which was great to see,” she added.

Hessenthaler thanked Natalie Collins and the Lovell Rec District for all of their planning and organizing of the tournament and the time spent putting it together.

“It takes a lot to put it together, and it’s very appreciated,” Hessenthaler said.

In the silver bracket, Team Hi-yah took first over Team Scheeler in a close three-set match.
