County fairgrounds reopens
The Big Horn County Fairgrounds reopened for equine activities on Friday, Jan. 16.
The commissioners were informed the state fairgrounds in Douglas resumed equine activities January 3. A call was made to the Wyoming State Veterinarian, and the decision to reopen was made.
The county released the following statement: “Due to staffing shortage and budget cuts, the arena will not be groomed as consistently as it was last winter. Staff will do their best to keep the arena in good condition, but we appreciate your understanding.
“There is not a sanitization or sterilization program in place for any of the fairground livestock facilities; you utilize these facilities at your own discretion and risk. Thank you for your patience as we worked through EHV1 recommendations and move forward into 2026.”
Those with memberships were contacted when the facility closed and offered credits and/or refunds.
