Don’t miss out on the summer fun with Lovell Rec

The Lovell Recreation District has a lineup of activities and events for the community to jump on board this summer. 

So far, youth basketball camps and the start of girls’ softball season have filled the Rec District calendar, but a variety of other youth sport camps and community events are scheduled to take place throughout the summer.

The Lovell Rec Volleyball Camp will be hosted by the Lady Bulldogs from June 29 to July 1 at the Lovell High School Gym. The cost for the camp is $30 per player with camp times being split from 9 to 10 a.m. for grades 3-5 and 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. for grades 6-8.

A youth football camp will be held July 13-15 at the Lovell High School football field. The cost is $30 per participant, and times will be 9 to 10 a.m. for grades 3-6  and 10 to 11 a.m. for grades 7-8. 

Lovell Rec will also be running the volleyball tournament during Lovell’s Days on June 27 at the Armory Park Softball Field. Registration is $60 per team and will close on June 26 at 6 p.m. with no exceptions taken after that date. Teams are six players and must include a minimum of two women. It is recommended that teams wear matching shirts to be easily identified by the host and other teams.

Check-ins on the day of the tournament will start at 12:30 p.m. The tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with pool play to determine bracket seeding into gold and silver brackets. Games are scored with the “rally score” method with two sets of 25 for pool play, and teams will swap sides between sets. If there is a tie during pool play, teams will not play a third set and will instead be assigned slots into the tournament based on sum of points. If a tie still remains, then those teams will be placed by the highest difference from wins to losses. A tie after the second set during the tournament bracket will result in a third set being played to 15 to determine the winner. 

All teams must keep track of their own score and turn final scores in after each game. Prizes will be awarded to first and second place teams in the gold bracket and first place in the silver bracket. Unsportsmanlike conduct is not permitted during the tournament, and the first offense will be a warning. The second offense will result in the removal of a player from the tournament. 

Triathlon shelved

A triathlon scheduled for July 4 at Horseshoe Bend has been cancelled due to low water in Big Horn Lake, Lovell Rec announced Tuesday.

“It is with disappointment that we announce the cancellation of the 2026 Bighorn Canyon Triathlon,” a Lovell Rec Facebook post reads. “Due to extremely low water levels at Horseshoe Bend Marina, we are unable to safely host the swim portion of the event, making it necessary to cancel this year’s race. We know many of you were looking forward to celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary with us at one of Wyoming’s most beautiful race locations, and we share in your disappointment. We sincerely appreciate everyone who showed interest in participating and supporting this event.

“As we look ahead, we’ll be crossing our fingers for plenty of precipitation this winter and improved water conditions next year. Our hope is to bring the Bighorn Canyon Triathlon back stronger than ever in 2027. Thank you for your understanding, support and enthusiasm for recreation in our community. Here’s to a snowy winter, a full reservoir and seeing everyone back at Horseshoe Bend next year.”

Lovell Rec will be bringing the community a marathon this fall on Saturday, September 5. Participants can sign up to run a 10k for $35, a half marathon for $50 or a full marathon for $65. The starting line will be located at 598 6^th Street in Lovell. Check-ins will start at 5:30 a.m., and the run will begin at 6 a.m.
