Elizabeth Mae Holso

March 27, 1944 – Sept. 14, 2025

Elizabeth “Liz” Mae Holso, 81, recent resident of Byron, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at home with family in Anchorage, Alaska.

Liz was born in Deadwood, South Dakota, to Bruno and Winnie Holso on March 27, 1944. She was a younger sister of Dorothy Jane Anderson.

Liz grew up in Lead, South Dakota. After graduating from Lead High School, she attended Black Hills State College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education.

Shortly after graduating from college, she married Robert Lickingteller. The couple moved to California, where Liz began teaching elementary school and gave birth to her first son, Cullen. After a few years in California, they moved to Billings, where she had two more sons and a daughter, Aaron, Marc and Corissa.

After her children were raised, Liz became re-certified to teach and relocated to Moses Lake, Washington, where she taught elementary school from 1994 until retiring in 2009. While in Washington, Liz married Carl Watts. Upon retirement, they moved to Byron.

Liz poured her heart and soul into her family and students. She was a very dedicated and loving mother, who prioritized family above all else. She was a natural homemaker, who enjoyed cooking, gardening and various crafts and was a strong advocate for experience and growth within her family.

She often volunteered for a multitude of community activities and functions that her children participated in. She had a gift for teaching and had a significant positive impact on her many students.

After moving to Byron, she developed a great appreciation for the community and its people. She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in October 2019.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents and sister.

She is survived by her four children and two granddaughters, Camryn and Emryn Schock, all of whom reside in Anchorage with the exception of Aaron, who lives in Sacramento, California.

A celebration of life will take place at a later time.
