The filing period for those interested in serving on a school board, hospital board or other special district board opened Wednesday, and prospective candidates have until the end of the business day on Monday, Aug. 26, to throw their hat in the ring.

School board candidates file with the Big Horn County Clerk’s office, and all others file with their respective district secretary.

Expiring seats and current office holders in North Big Horn County are as follows:

School Boards

The terms of four veteran school board members in Lovell serving Big Horn County School District No. 2 are expiring: Dan Anderson, Stacy Bair, Deb Fink and Rebeca Moncur. Seats held by Bruce Jolley, Danny Jolley and Marianne Grant run through 2026.

Four seats are also up for election in School District No. 1: seats held by at large member Holly Michaels of Burlington, designated Deaver-Frannie board member Jared Boardman, designated Byron board member and newly appointed member Craig Jones of Burlington, who recently replaced Jessie Hamilton on the board. Hamilton’s seat did not expire until 2026, but because Jones was appointed before the 2024 election, the seat carries a two-year term and must be filled in the 2024 general election.

Expiring in 2026 are seats held by Joseph Bassett, Dave Banks and Hiedi Christensen, along with Jones.

Hospital District Board

Three seats are coming open on the North Big Horn Hospital District Board of Directors held by at large members David Winterholler and Ron Christensen and designated Lovell seat member Mary Matthews. Expiring in 2026 are seats held by Bruce Morrison, Todd Simmons, Garret Frescoln and Brett Crosby.

Other district boards

Also coming open are seats on other special district boards:

Shoshone Conservation District – rural representatives Brad Tippetts and Spencer Ellis and urban member Bo Grant.

Fire Protection District No. 1 – Greg Rael and Bruce Jolley.

Fire Protection District No. 5 – Cherie Wambeke and Coleen Wagner.

North Big Horn County Senior Citizens District Board – Edie Crosby, Annella Prosser and Lori Scheffler.
