Deaver/Frannie firefighters were gathered for a board meeting in Deaver when a call came in about a Dodge pickup truck that caught fire on Highway 310 near the Montana/Wyoming state line.
The call came in at 5:15 p.m. on June 20, and since firefighters were already assembled for their meeting, they were able to get to the burning vehicle within minutes. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but not before the fire completely totaled the vehicle. Fortunately, the driver was not injured, and there were no passengers.
“The owner told me he heard a loud boom, so he pulled over to the side of the road,” said Deaver/Frannie fire chief Nick Loftus. “When he got out he noticed fire coming out from under the vehicle. We got the fire out fast. The Clark’s Fork Valley Fire Dept. out of Bridger responded, too.”
Loftus said seven firefighters and three engines responded from the Deaver/Frannie area. They also put out several small “spot” fires on the side of the road north of where the vehicle pulled over that were most likely caused by sparks from the vehicle.
Loftus said, though he spoke to the driver, he did not get his name. Wyoming law enforcement officials did not respond to the call as it was out of their jurisdiction. Loftus noted that the truck was parked very close to the state line on the Montana side of the line.
