Four top displays noted in annual Chamber lighting contest
A pair of classic and dazzling displays of Christmas lights tied this year for the Lovell Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Lighting Contest, with two other top vote getters ineligible as winners in the two previous years.
A perennial community favorite at 749 Nevada erected by Randy and Kathy Smith with blue white icicles lining the home, colorful bushes and a variety of lawn ornaments ties with the display at 854 Nevada designed by Jeff and Shannon McCollam featuring icicle lights along the roof, a draped porch railing, a pair of light-covered trees and two blow-up Santa bears.
Placing second was 2021 winner Richard Morrison at 295 Carmon Avenue with his spectacular array of light-covered trees and 10 or more wreaths adorning the home.
In third place is 2022 winner Steven and Madison Hunder with their Disney-themed pathway of lights at 12 East 8th Street, open to the public nightly for a walk-through.
The contest was judged by members of the Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and Chamber manager Linda Morrison said the communities of Lovell, Cowley and Byron – homes and businesses alike – have outdone themselves this year with top notch displays too numerous to list – a thrill for Christmas light peepers.
The Town of Lovell and the public works crew has also received praise this year for the new lighted Christmas wreaths and accompanying lighted garland adorning light poles in the downtown business district.
