Fundraiser for Asay Friday in Cowley
The Rocky Mountain High School volleyball team is rallying around longtime music teacher Mandie Asay, who has been in serious condition since early September.
Mandie has been bringing music to the elementary and middle school for almost 20 years. She has faced a series of medical complications including a pulmonary embolism and extended stays in the ICU. She is currently in a medically induced coma, and her road to recovery is expected to be long and difficult.
At the home volleyball game on Friday, Oct. 3, fans will find a donation box with all proceeds going directly to support Mandie’s care.
Elementary Principal Eric Honeyman expressed how deeply Mandie is loved by her school family.
“We have been blessed to have Mandie as our music teacher at RMES since 2006,” he said. “She has always shared her love of music with her students, and they adore her in return. Our RMES family is holding her in our hearts, praying she continues to get one percent better each day.”
RMMHS Principal Betsy Sammons added, “Our hearts ache for Mandie during this difficult time. The entire Grizz family misses her in our school and continues to pray for her recovery.”
A GoFundMe page has also been created to help with her extensive medical costs and living expenses as she recovers. Despite living with chronic pain for much of her adult life, she has always been known for her optimism, kindness and passion for music.
