Greg V. Johnson

Sept. 16, 1944 – July 8, 2024

Gregory Vail Johnson, 79, passed away July 8, 2024, at Billings Clinic. His wife, Judy, and his grandson, Brad, were by his side.  

He was born in Luverne, Minnesota, to Elmer O. Johnson and Julia S. (Rulon) Johnson. 

He married Judy on September 13, 1997, in Riverside, California. Two years later they retired and moved to Wyoming. They lived near Cowley for 17 years, then move to the Powell area, according to Greg, “the best place on earth.”

In 1962 Greg enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps to serve his country. His tour of duty was Vietnam. He was honorably discharged March of 1966. He received a Purple Heart for his service, along with other commendations.

Greg’s career path after the military was with the Los Angeles Police Department. He retired on February 14, 1999, after 26½ years. 

Greg loved animals. He always had  horses, dogs and cats and rescued any animal that needed a home. His best friends had four legs.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Delbert and Doran. 

He is survived by his wife, Judy, daughters Denise and Debbie, stepsons Bob and Mike, several grandkids and one very special young man named Brad.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.
