Grizz record strong performances at Lovell Invitational
Enjoying a balmy day in Lovell Saturday, the Rocky Mountain Middle School track and field team competed for the final time before the conference meet and produced some outstanding results.
Two school records were broken Saturday at the Lovell Invitational. Sixth-grader Tianna Christiansen broke her own school record (7-4) set just last week in the pole vault, clearing 7-6 to win the sixth-grade event, edging Tilly Neves on misses.
Eighth-grader Jaxx May broke Cooper Ward’s school record in the eighth-grade 100-meter dash set last year, winning the event in 12.17.
Christiansen had an outstanding day. Not only did she win the pole vault, she won the sixth-grade 200-meter dash in 30.35, placed second in the sixth-grade 200-meter hurdles in 34.78 and placed fifth in the 800 meters, covering the two laps in 3:01.83.
May was a multi-event winner, as well. Besides the 100, he won the 400-meter dash in 57.05, placed second in the high jump by clearing 5-2 and placed fifth in the 800 – all in the eighth-grade division – in a time of 2:30.79.
Eighth grader Sawyer Bassett had a good day. She won the eighth-grade triple jump with a leap of 32-3½, placed third in the long jump at 14-6¼, placed third in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.92 and placed sixth in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 35.42.
Kielley Brimhall placed third in the sixth-grade triple jump at 25-2 and second in the discus with a throw of 44-5.
Taylor Grandalen placed second in the seventh-grade high jump, clearing 4-4.

Sixth grader Kate Crosby – 8th, 100-meter dash, sixth grader Presli Moss – 4th, 1,600 meters, seventh grader Mariah Mauch – 8th, 1,600 meters, sixth-grade 400m relay team (Alexis Clark, Crosby, Moss, Lauren Hedges) – 4th, seventh grade 800-meter sprint relay team (Eden Wallway, Kaylie Watts, Clair Mumford, Mauch) – 3rd, sixth grader Millie Hanusa – 4th, discus, 6th, shot put.
Boys results
Seventh grader Dally Malson had a strong day for the Grizzlies. He won the 200-meter hurdles in a time of 33.03, won the shot put with a throw of 32-5¾, placed second in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.54 and placed second in the discus at 76-8½.
Sixth grader Cody Kougl placed second in the 200-meter dash in 32.30, and seventh grader Hudson Moore placed second in the triple jump, hitting the sand at 31-7. Kougl also placed third in the sixth-grade triple jump at 25-5¼ and fourth in the 100-meter dash in 15.23.
Seventh grader Brooks Brost placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 30-2¼, fourth in the high jump at 4-8 and fourth in the 100-meter dash in 14.08.
Sixth grader Maddox Ward placed second in the 100-meter hurdles in 21.71.
Eighth grader Benson Jolley placed third in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet.

As a team, the Rocky Mountain sixth-grade girls placed third with 65 points, and the seventh-grade boys placed third with 80 points. The sixth-grade boys and the eighth-grade boys placed sixth, the seventh-grade girls seventh and the eighth-grade girls eighth.
Conference meet
The Grizzlies will travel to Thermopolis Saturday for the Big Horn Conference meet, and certain athletes will compete at the middle school best-of-the-best meet in Lander on Tuesday, May 13, completing the season.
