The Rocky Mountain High School cross country team traveled to Wright Saturday to compete in the 2025 Brittany Rentas Memorial Cross Country Meet. The event featured schools from across the state, including Wright, Glenrock, Sundance and Moorcroft, giving the Grizzlies a solid test in varsity competition.

Head coach Tim Jones said he was proud of how his runners performed, noting that it was a good meet for the team to gain experience against similar-sized schools. He added that his athletes continue to show strong effort each week and steady improvement.

For the girls, Evynn Alvarez finished 14th with a time of 26:55, and Ellie Alvarez was close behind in 18th at 28:48, nearly personal records for both runners.

On the boys side, Rowan Hanusa ran a strong race, placing sixth in 20:56, and Zach Unruh followed in seventh at 21:13, great finishes for a pair of underclassmen. Grant Weierman also showed determination, finishing 23rd.

Jones said Avery Thomas is still working to overcome an injury but hopes to return soon and finish out the season.

The Grizzlies take the short trip to Powell on Thursday to compete. High school running begins at 1 p.m. at the Powell Country Club.
