Following a disappointing varsity loss to Lusk Friday afternoon, the Rocky Mountain junior varsity squad rebounded in a big way by pounding Burlington Monday afternoon in a hybrid six-man/nine-man football game, 50-26.

Coach Justin Moss said the Grizzlies started slow with Burlington scoring first but settled in and scored the next 36 points.

The Grizz scored seven touchdowns, starting with a 14-yard run by freshman Cooper Ward.

Freshman Mason Moss had a huge game. He returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown, hit sophomore Joaquin Scheeler for a 14-yard touchdown pass and connected with fellow frosh Ryan Grant for an 18-yard score.

With Scheeler behind center, Moss scored on a 72-yard pass and a 78-yard pass from the sophomore, and Scheeler also had a pick six, returning an interception 16 yards to pay dirt.

“Masen Twomey (sophomore) was dominant on defense with multiple sacks and tackles for losses,” Coach Moss said. “He also recorded two interceptions.”

With no varsity game scheduled this weekend, the Grizzly JVs will host Big Horn Saturday at 11 a.m. The varsity squad returns to the field Thursday, Sept. 19, for a non-conference game at Greybull. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
