Grizzly JVs stop Big Horn in defensive battle
Though the varsity team had the weekend off, the Rocky Mountain junior varsity squad won a defensive battle against the Big Horn Rams at home Saturday, topping the visitors from Sheridan County 12-6.
Coach Rod Winland said Rocky Mountain scored in the first half on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Joaquin Scheeler to Mason Moss, set up by a 20-yard run by Cooper Ward. Then with two minutes left in the third quarter, Moss returned the favor to Scheeler, finding the sophomore on a seam route for a 25-yard touchdown pass.
“Mason Twomey proved to be a dominant force on defense,” Winland said. “The O line deserves a lot of praise for their blocking. We were able to move the ball
pretty well. Two fumbles during the game stalled two long drives. We very possibly could have scored two more touchdowns.
“This was a big win for our team. Big Horn is a top notch 2A team, and our boys adjusted well on defense and handled their offensive passing game fairly well.”
The Rocky Mountain varsity squad returns to action tonight (Thursday), traveling to Greybull for a 6 p.m. kickoff, the first of two games with the Buffs. This game is a non-conference contest.
The JVs will host Greybull Monday, Sept. 30, at 5 p.m.
