Hoops take center court at Lovell’s Days
The three-on-three basketball tournament that took place June 26 in conjunction with Lovell’s Days had a big turnout. A total of 21 teams across five divisions showed up to compete in the tournament Friday.
“Overall, we were quite pleased with how everything came together,” said Shane Durtsche, one of the referees who helped with the tournament. “This is the first three-on-three tournament we have run, and we heard many positive comments from people who have talked to us about it.”
The 6th/7th grade boys’ division champions were the “307 Elite” consisting of players Rowen Oram, Weston Rohrer, Simon Shearer and Kolbie Parker. The ‘Half Court Hotties’ girls took the win in the 6th/7th girls division with team members Leah Hessenthaler, Kashi Collins, Charlize Hessenthaler and Blakely Piper.
The 8th/9th grade boy division was won by team “G-League” with team players Danen Oram, Rucker Kovach, Lucas Eaton and Manti Jeidi. The 8th/9th grade girl division champions were the “Beach Baddies” with players Tenley Shorb, Jade Miller, Timber Eastman, Kalia Wisniewski and Lilly Bertagnole.
The varsity boys division, consisting of 10th, 11th, and 12th grade players, was won by the team “Dark Night,” with players Braxton Nelson, Knox Johnson and Karcher Foley.
“The tournament was successful, especially with so many people coming out to the event. A lot of people in the community had also volunteered to officiate and keep scores of matches, which contributed to the event’s good turnout,” said Durtsche.
