James Farmer Whaley

James Farmer Whaley, known as Jim to all who knew him, 73, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at New Horizons Care Center.
Jim was born to Phillip Alan Whaley and Ilene Farmer Whaley on February 11, 1951, in Laramie. Throughout his younger years he lived in various places including Laramie, Deaver, Burlington, Jackson Hole, Sheridan, Byron, Powell and Lovell, as well as California, South Dakota, Nebraska and Montana.
He always had a love of most sports and amazed his fellow students in high school with his knowledge of sports teams, scores, players and their statistics. Jim read the sports pages before going to school. Then other students would ask him questions of the information on those pages before classes started and were amazed that he could answer all their questions from memory. Jim continued to be an avid sports enthusiast throughout his life.
Jim graduated from Byron High School in 1970, then went on to Northwest Community College. After college, he worked at various jobs, then finished his working career as a custodian in the Conrad, Montana, Public School system for 30 years before retiring. He spent the last 13 years at NHCC.
Jim married Vesta Ann Vandervort in the Salt Lake City Temple June 3, 1975. They were blessed with three children, Phillip, Jamie and Jeffery.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim is survived by his wife, three children, sisters Janene (Don) Hatch and Connie Lee (Allen) Reuter and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. at Haskell Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Lovell Cemetery.
