Joseph ‘Bud’ Edward Mickelson
Dec. 12, 1938 – March 26, 2025
Joseph “Bud” Mickelson, 86, passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2025, with family and his wife of almost 59 years, Annie, by his side.
Bud was born in Lovell on December 12, 1938, to Eddie and Hazel Mickelson and was raised on the Mickelson family farm, which laid the foundation to the life he was to have. This is where he first learned the hard work ethic and love of the outdoors familiar to his family and friends.
He participated in high school sports and graduated from Lovell High School in 1957. After a few jobs, he then chose to start his military career which resulted in more than 25 years of service, with him ending his career serving our country, retiring from the United States Navy on February 29, 1980. With retirement, he returned with his family to his hometown, ultimately working at Lovell High School for 15 more years, which he truly enjoyed as he was allowed to “push a broom, fix things, hang out with the kids and get paid for it.”
Along the way, he met the love of his life, Annie. They were married on April 6, 1966, and have been attached nonstop ever since. They spent life enjoying the outdoors, often being spotted in the Big Horns on an ATV or perhaps on the river with fishing pole or shotgun in hand. They were together throughout, and together raised two sons, instilling the same beliefs, work ethic, love and the ability to fix anything with zip ties and duct tape. His ability to always be in a good mood and brighten anyone arounds mood will always be remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Hazel, and brother Kendall.
Bud is survived by his loving wife Annie; sons Richard and Joey; loved daughters-in-law Jennifer and Jane; grandchildren Camryn, Keaton, Lauren and Logan; great-grandchildren Emery and Crue; and sister Jeannine.
At his request, graveside services for friends and family will be held at the Lovell Cemetery April 5 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, it was his request to make donations to the NBHH Foundation or a veterans group of your choice.
