Keele places second at Riverton speech meet

Six of the nine Lovell /Rocky Mountain High School speech and debate team traveled to Riverton for a two-day tournament to compete against 15 schools, with 277 competitors, on January 24-25.

Lilly Keele, a sophomore, placed second with her Informative Speech titled “Split Brain Surgery and the Left-Brain Interpreter.” 

“I’m working to make it to first place,” Keele said. “And I’m sure she can do this,” added coach Heather Mickelson

Nikia Heron participated in Informative Speech with a piece titled “Black Footed Ferrets.” Also participating in Informative Speech were Gemma Allphin with “Jack the Ripper” and Christy Aagard with “Peacock Spider.”

Bianca Krei participated in Poetry with a piece titled “Time Goes On.” Krei said her piece has to do with the stages of grief including the seasons of life, how time goes on and so does life, but the pain never goes away. “It is about the loss of my parents,” she said.

Competing in Original Oratory, Bella Gallagher’s piece was on age discrepancy in military and being an adult. Those not attending the Riverton meet were Rachel Hawley, Matthew Allen and Lilian Wenstrom.

On February 7-8 the team will travel to Gillette and will then have a week off to prepare for Districts and State.
