Lady Grizz ready to attack the season

Coach Kay Townsend is excited for the Rocky Mountain High School 2026 volleyball season. Practices have already begun, giving glimpses of what may be in store this season. Having four returning varsity players provides a firm foundation for the team.

This season the 6-2 rotation will allow coaches to utilize both outstanding setters, senior Charlee Welling and junior Leah Haslem, Townsend said. These ladies will be leading the team, Townsend said, along with returning seniors Hallee Grandalen and Kaysie Cooley. 

    The middle hitters this year are Grandalen and junior Bailey Gifford.  The outside positions are being played by Cooley and sophomore Sawyer Bassett.  The team is rounded out by junior Whitney Asay, sophomores Annie Crosby and Daizy Weinand and freshmen Taylor Grandalen and Elle Ganough. Through practice and competition, the team will focus on timing blocks and hits Townsend said.

    The Lady Grizz JV volleyball team is comprised of juniors, sophomores and other players. However, this team is coming in with an outstanding burst of new energy. Incoming are six freshmen who will play as a freshman team, led by Coach Lauren Robertson. The freshman team will also play a role in assisting the JV team as needed. 

   The Lady Grizzlies will host a tournament at Rocky Mountain High School this upcoming weekend.

“This is a strong varsity team, and this weekend’s tournament will be a good time to test out what we have and what we need to tweak,” Townsend said.

Friday, the Lady Grizz meet Meeteetse at 10 a.m., Riverside at 2 p.m. and Greybull at 6 p.m. Saturday, the Grizz play Dubois at 9 a.m. and Burlington at 3 p.m.
