Last Thursday evening, the young RMMS Lady Grizz hit the road to face Lovell, earning one win by the B squad while the A and C teams came up just short in competitive matchups.

A team game – Lovell 33, Rocky 18:

Rocky stayed close through the first half before Lovell pulled away late. Paisley Malson led with 8 points, Tianna Christiansen had 4, and Taylor Grandalen, Presli Moss and Kate Crosby also scored.

“We played right with them the first half. Our legs caught up to us in the second half, but the girls still kept playing hard,” head coach Taylor Winland said.

B team game – Rocky 26, Lovell 17:

The B team earned the night’s win behind Josie Loyning’s 14 points and Moss’ 7. Crosby, Lauren Hedges and Alexis Clark also scored. Rocky’s offense executed well, and the defense limited Lovell’s post presence. Rocky sealed the win by scoring 11 points in the final quarter.

Winland noted that the “B team did a great job scoring within the offense and played tough post defense on Lovell’s post.”

C team – Lovell 25, Rocky 24:

The most dramatic game of the night saw Rocky rally late, outscoring Lovell 14–6 in the fourth before falling by one. Sixth grader Loyning led all scorers with 11. Paizlee Fisher played well, scoring 8. Penelope Wambeke, Ava Weierman and Katalina Hetland all added points. Collins Hubbell, Aliyah Lesher and Adrianna DeLaCruz all contributed on defense.

“C-team battled till the very end; it’s a resilient group of girls,” Coach Winland said.

Tuesday sweep

Rocky Middle School put together one of its strongest outings of the season Tuesday, sweeping all three games against Riverside in Basin.

A team – Rocky 40, Riverside 12:

The A team struck fast with a 14-point first quarter and never looked back. Taylor Grandalen led with 11 points, Tianna Christiansen added 10 and Elle Ganoung scored 6. Kielley Brimhall and Kate Crosby each added 6 as well, with all the players contributing to the dominant defensive effort.

“All three teams got out to big leads in the first half and didn’t look back,” Coach Winland said. “The girls got after it defensively, which led to layups. When we didn’t have a fast break, we were able to pull it back out and run our offense.”

B team – Rocky 35, Riverside 12:

A 13-point second quarter powered the B team to a decisive win. Josie Loyning led all scorers with 17 points, Presli Moss had 6 and Lauren Hedges added 4, with Paisley Malson and Millie Hanusa also contributing to the scoring.

“These girls work so hard,” Coach Madison Grandalen said. “Every girl stepped up and embraced her role. Their teamwork and energy keep growing, and it’s truly fun to watch them support one another. This group makes coaching so fun for me.”

C team – Rocky 36, Riverside 1:

Rocky’s C team dominated from start to finish. Paizlee Fisher poured in 12 points, Collins Hubbell added 10 and Katalina Hetland scored 6. Aliyah Lesher and Ava Weierman had 4 as Rocky controlled the game defensively and in transition.

The young Lady Grizz team will have two home opponents this weekend, with Burlington coming to Rocky for three games beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday and Thermopolis traveling to play RMMS for three games on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
