Lady Grizzlies sweep Wind River
Rocky Mountain swept Wind River on Friday in Pavillion as the Lady Grizzlies’ work in practice translated into a strong performance.
“It was great to see the players having fun and sharing the joy of being successful,” coach Kay Townsend said. “They were able to string points together and made some good scoring runs.”
Leah Haslem recorded a season-high 31 assists, while Taylor Grandalen was perfect from the service line. Sawyer Bassett added three aces, and Kaysie Cooley had two.
Rocky Mountain won the first two sets by identical 25-22 scores before closing the sweep with a 25-13 victory in the third.
The Lady Grizzlies traveled to Greybull on Saturday but fell in straight sets.
“We came out swinging and held on in two sets,” Townsend said.
Rocky Mountain continued to serve well but lost the first set 25-18 and the second 25-21.
“By the third set, my players were tired of getting hit at,” Townsend said. “They struggled with serve receive and covering hits in the third set.”
Greybull completed the sweep with a 25-7 win.
Rocky Mountain returns home Friday to face Thermopolis during homecoming week. The freshman match begins at 1 p.m., followed by junior varsity, with the varsity match scheduled for 3 p.m.
“Thermopolis is a must-win this week,” Townsend said. “It will make for a great homecoming volleyball game. We should have a great crowd.”
On Saturday, the Class 2A Lady Grizzlies will face the Class 3A Lady Bulldogs in Lovell. Rocky Mountain hopes to carry momentum from the Thermopolis match into the contest, which begins at 11 a.m.
“Lovell is a powerhouse this season,” Townsend said. “We are going to play our own game, practicing all the blocking and defensive moves we have. I have heard that their serves are good, but our serve receives rocks.”
