LDS Temple in Cody to be dedicated Sunday
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Lovell area will join thousands of fellow church members across the Big Horn Basin on Sunday, Oct. 25, for the dedication of the new Cody Wyoming Temple.
Elder Clark G. Gilbert, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will preside at the dedication.
The dedication will begin at 10 a.m. at the Lovell Stake Center with a rebroadcast scheduled for 2 p.m. Because seating inside the temple is limited, attendance at the temple itself will be by invitation only. Other eligible church members may participate through broadcasts at designated meeting houses throughout the Big Horn Basin.
Church leaders have asked those attending to arrive at least 30 minutes before the dedication begins.
Unlike the recent temple open house, which welcomed the public to tour the building, the dedication is a sacred religious ceremony reserved for LDS Church members who hold a valid temple recommend. Parents of baptized children ages 8 through 11 who wish to participate should contact their local church leaders.
The dedication will include the traditional Hosanna Shout, a ceremonial expression of praise and gratitude associated with temple dedications. Participants are encouraged to bring a clean white handkerchief for the ceremony.
The dedication follows the temple’s public open house, held from late August through mid-September, when visitors had an opportunity to tour the building and learn about the role temples play in Latter-day Saint worship.
The opening of the Cody Wyoming Temple represents a significant milestone for LDS Church members throughout the Big Horn Basin, who previously traveled to Billings or Idaho Falls to participate in sacred ordinances.
Following its dedication, the Cody Wyoming Temple will serve church members throughout the region, providing a place for worship and religious ceremonies closer to home.
