Letter to the Editor: Deaver, Frannie libraries being closed unfairly
To the Editor,
We are saddened to learn of the proposed closure of the Deaver and Frannie libraries as of September 1, 2025. We understand that there needs to be cuts in the budget, but it does not seem fair that Deaver/Frannie will be giving up 100% of open hours while the remaining libraries will be giving up from 15% to 18% of man hours. Wyoming is known as the Equality State. Where is the equality in this decision?
One solution would be that Deaver/Frananie give up two hours per week, which would leave 1½ hours twice a week for each town. That would be a 25% cut. The larger libraries have two employees each. Perhaps one or two extra hours could be cut from these libraries to equalize the whole system.
The next commissioner’s meeting will be August 1 at 1 p.m., and the library board will meet August 14 in Lovell at
1 p.m.
