Letter to the Editor: Saying thank you to the billionaires
Dear Editor,
I don’t understand why anybody having difficulties is the fault of billionaires. Wealth is in the eye of the beholder. I remember in 1979 making $4 an hour, looking enviously at my father who was making over $10 an hour. I suppose the reason I couldn’t afford a house was all the $10 an hour people hogging up the housing.
Can you imagine someone in Cuba looking at an average American with two cars, two or three televisions, plenty of food and a house. The average Cuban probably doesn’t realize how bad we have it.
My son-in-law uses Starlink for his internet service. Works flawlessly, thank you, Elon. My son orders items from Amazon, doesn’t have to go anywhere and is very good on warranty. Thank you, Jeff. When my son was in Iraq, we used Facebook to instantly communicate. Thank you, Mark.
These three billionaires, Elon, Jeff and Mark, employ thousands of people. The upper 1% of income earners pay 40% of federal income tax, a ton of corporate taxes and God knows how much property tax. Thank you, rich people.
In 1976 returning from a Med run, my two friends and I rented a house on the beach, not that you could see the beach. My father and mother came and visited us. Another roommate’s brother, who had served in Vietnam, visited us. My father, who served in World War II, and the Vietnam veteran fooled us into thinking we had it really, really good. I suppose compared to World War II and Vietnam we did. I didn’t realize until I got out of the Navy, listening to the news, how poor we were. No one told us. In Italy onshore Italian sailors called us rich bast----.
