Letter to the Editor: A wonderful experience at Lovell Elementary school

Dear Editor,

I would like to tell you about a wonderful experience in my life. I am blessed with four children, eight grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. These wonderful people are scattered in several states, so I rarely see them.

I happened to go to lunch at the senior citizens center with a friend and picked up a flyer about the Foster Grandparent program in our schools. I talked to a dear lady in Riverton, Lorie, in charge of the program. I chose to help in the three first grades an hour a day and the library on Thursday with the kindergarteners and first graders.

Children are naturally curious, so on the first day on the job, two little boys spotted my gold tooth and it was quite an attraction for quite some time. One little fellow wanted to know why my eyebrows are darker than my grey hair. I could not give a satisfactory answer. So many funny moments with childhood curiosity and their innocent behavior.

I am so impressed with principal Mr. Jensen and the three first grade teachers, Mrs. Mickelson, Mrs. Lindsay, Mrs. Lohof and Mrs. Walker in the library. They all have control of their classrooms with no harsh behavior, just kind and courteous. I took a leave of absence because of health reasons. For Mother’s Day, I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers signed from the first graders, then received cards that were signed by all the children in three first grades.

So great. However, all this kindness was engineered by three fantastic, caring young women. What a comfort to know they are in charge of our young children.
